About the Guild

Where weavers create together

About the Guild

At Niagara Handweavers and Spinners, people from all around the Niagara region come together to share a genuine love of fibre arts. Whether weaving, spinning, dyeing, or simply learning from one another, members find our studio a friendly, encouraging place to connect and create.

There’s always something happening — a hands-on workshop, a lively spinning session, or our annual dye day, where ideas flow as freely as colour. Throughout the year, members can be found sharing their craft at local festivals, museums, and community events, inspiring others with the beauty of handmade textiles.

The highlight of our year is The Art of Fibre Show and Sale, held every November, when everyone gathers to celebrate creativity and community. No matter your experience — whether you’re just starting out or have been at it for years — you’ll discover lasting friendships, encouragement, and plenty of inspiration in our group.

OUR HISTORY

Niagara Handweavers and Spinners traces its roots back to September 9, 1948, when eighteen weaving enthusiasts formed the Guild after taking part in an Ontario Government Community Program weaving course in Niagara Falls. Inspired by their shared passion, those founders created a tradition of learning and artistic collaboration that continues today.

As one of Ontario’s oldest fibre arts guilds, our membership has grown beyond Niagara Falls to include people from communities across the region. Over the decades, members have participated in workshops, exhibits, craft festivals, heritage events, and competitions like the Royal Agricultural Winter Fair’s Sheep to Shawl. Our commitment to community, creativity, and skill-sharing has remained at the heart of everything we do.
